Groups for projects in SENG 310, Spring 2005

Here are the groups I have received so far. Please remember to choose
a name. When no name is provided I have just used numbering - feel free
to suggest a different name. Some of the groups have been created by me
from students that chose to have random partners. The order is based on
when I received the corresponding emails.

The 5 winning proposals were consolidated to 4 by merging the Web registration
system with the course/lecture information system. So the projects are:

P1: Uvic messenger
P2: Web registration/course information
P3: Bus mapper
P4: What can I make for dinner with what I currently have

The goal of the project is to provide you with hands-on experience applying the design concepts learned in this course. The project will consists of three phases that will be conducted  sequentially.

In addition after each stage there will be an evaluation stage that each student
will perform individually.  These three evaluation reports will comprise assignment 3.
Even though evaluation reports will be done individually the actual projects to be evaluated will be done based on group assignments. For example a particular student will be assigned a different project for requirements gathering, design, prototype implementation and evaluation so each student will be involved in all four projects.

  1. Requirements gathering (Project 1/3)
  2. Design (Project 2/3)
  3. Prototype implementation (Project 3/3)
Each group will complete each phase for a different project. The deliverables
will consist of the following:

  1. Requirements gathering report   (due March 10)
  2. Design report                                 (due March 23)
  3. Prototype implementation report (due April 9)
The following intials will be used to denote the phases:
R: requirements gathering
D: design
P: prototype
E: evaluation

For example group1 will do requirements gathering for project 1: Uvic messenger,
design for project 2: Web registration/lecture information and prototype implementation
for project 3: Bus mapper and each student of the group individually will evaluate
all phases for project 4: What can I make for dinner with what I currently have.

This sounds more complicated than it is, however I believe it will reflect much better
the reality of Interaction design than a simpler scheme.
