D. Huang, J. J. Shi. TCP over packet radio link with adaptive channel
coding. Proc. IEEE 51st VTC'2000-Spring, 790-794, 2000
... A channel-coding adaptation mechanism based on recommendation
from the receiver is proposed. A traffic model that exhibits self-similarity
is considered for packet data applications. The radio channel is modeled
as a Rayleigh fading channel. ...

the end-to-end performance of reliable flows over wireless links.
Proc.
5th ACM MobiCom'99, 113-119, 1999
We present the results of a performance evaluation of link layer
er-ror recovery over wireless links. Our analysis is based upon a case
study of the circuit-switched data service implemented in GSM dig-ital
cellular networks. ... We show that the throughput of the GSM circuit-switched
data channel can be improved by up to 25 percent by increasing the (fixed)
frame size of the reliable link layer protocol. Our results also suggest
that adaptive frame length control could further increase the channel throughput.

R. Ludwig, B. Rathonyi, A. Konrad, K. Oden, A. Josep. Multi-layer
Tracing of TCP over a Reliable Wireless Link. Proc. ACM SigMetrics'99,
144-154, 1999
... We propose the use of multi-layer tracing as a powerful methodology
to analyze the complex protocol interactions between the layers. Our measurements
show that TCP throughput over GSM is mostly ideal and that spurious timeouts
are extremely rare. ... identify the primary causes of degraded performance:
(1) inefficient interactions with TCP/IP header compression, and (2) excessive
queuing caused by overbuffered links. ...

M. Meyer. TCP performance over GPRS. Proc. IEEE WCNC'99,
1248-1252, 1999
... Often it was suspected that GPRS introduces severe performance
degradations for TCP-traffic since both apply their own ARQ mechanism.
It is well known that layered protocol interactions can have very negative
influences. This paper examines with simu-lations the performance of TCP
over GPRS. The behaviour of the protocols will be analysed under various
conditions. It will be shown that both TCP and GPRS are well harmonised.

S. Hoff, M. Meyer, A. Schieder. A performance evaluation of Internet
access via the General Packet Radio Service of GSM. Proc. IEEE 48th
VTC'98, 1760-1764, 1998
... This paper presents a simulator, which was developed to assess
the performance of GPRS when used as access means to the Internet. The
focus is on the evaluation of the interaction between the protocols applied
in the Internet and for GPRS. ...
