--Deadlines have now past--Submission categories:Tool demonstrations: Interested tool designers must submit a description of their tool and how it can be used to enhance understanding (max. 2 pages) . The number of tools demonstrated will be limited (by the size of the room). Criteria for selection will be on the maturity of the tool (for example, can the participants try it), innovative aspects and the quality of the description of the tool and the tasks it supports We are particularly interested in software visualization tools that assist in understanding the static and dynamic aspects of the software during software maintenance and development. In order to encourage collaboration and coordination between presentations, we suggest that participants consider demonstrating their software tool using a similar software system. The suggested exemplar system is a drawing tool. For UNIX developed tools, tool developers may wish to consider showing aspects of the xfig drawing tool -- the xfig source code can be downloaded from: www.xfig.org or GIMP, http://mmmaybe.gimp.org . An older version (3.2.1) is also available here. For Windows developed tools, "GIMP" includes unofficial ports to Windows, Macintosh, and OS/2. Participants are encouraged to find other drawing software programs if the systems we list do not provide the required data for a visualization tool. A one to two page script describing your demonstration would be very helpful (we will post these in advance of the workshop also to help in coordination of demonstrations). Selected tool developers will be encouraged to collaborate and coordinate their presentations in advance of the DesignFest. Due date: August 1st, 2003 Position papers: We solicit thought-provoking position style papers that will be presented and used for discussion during the afternoon of the DesignFest. Criteria for selection will be based on the clarity of the paper and the appropriateness of the topic for a group discussion. Note we strongly encourage tool users to submit papers that discuss what they would like to see the tool designers deliver in their tools, as well as position papers from tool designers. Position papers will be available in advance of the workshop and attendees will be encouraged to browse them beforehand to improve the discussion. Position papers should be a maximum of 6 pages. We intend to compile (expanded) position papers as a special issue of a journal. Due date: August 1st, 2003 Submission guidelines It is recommended to use IEEE double column format. Appropriate templates can be found at ftp://pubftp.computer.org/Press/Outgoing/proceedings/ . Please submit your paper in [.pdf] or [.ps] format. Submissions: Please email all submissions to mstorey@uvic.ca Attach the Paper or Tool description in [.pdf] or [.ps] format as an
attachment.
