Books

MIR is a new research area so there is no textbook that can directly be used. However a lot of relevant material can be found. The following books are examples of books I have found interesting and useful in my own research and teaching of MIR.
  1. A Digital Signal Processing Primer (with applications to Digital Audio and Computer Music) - Ken Steiglitz, Addison-Wesley
(great introductory book to DSP. Most of the material I covered in the beginning of the class about complex numbers, sinusoids, Fourier Series and the DFT was based on this book)
  2. Real Sound Synthesis for Interactive Applications - Perry Cook, A.K Peters (another introductory book with DSP material investigating the physics and mathematics for creating sounds aimed at computer games and virtual reality)
